2018 New Year Message
As we begin 2018, we take this moment to reflect upon our core values and consider how we can continue to be of greatest service.
The Board of Trustees and staff of Alliance Healthcare Foundation stand hand in hand with San Diego and Imperial County communities in an unwavering commitment to health equity and wellness.
Because, for too many, health equity does not currently exist, we reiterate our vision and affirm our commitment to our vision.
“We envision a San Diego and Imperial County region where equitable health resources lead to universal health and well-being.”
We draw on our firm belief that our communities can, and therefore must, continue to exemplify the best of humanity and will represent at all times our respect for diversity, human rights and the inclusion of all.
At the start of this new year, we call on our partners, stakeholders and leaders to join us in representing the change our communities need from us – now and into the future.

What Our Grantees Have To Say
Olivewood Gardens is grateful to have been selected to receive the Mission Support Grant from Alliance Healthcare Foundation. At Olivewood we are changing eating habits and creating champions for healthy families and a healthy environment. This grant will allow us to closely examine the impacts of our garden based nutrition education programs and identify methods to replicate and scale the most effective programs. In this way we will expand our reach and serve more families and neighborhoods suffering from health conditions affected by food. AHF truly understands the social determinants for health and we are excited to be a part of the AHF work to increase health equity in our community.
Healy Vigderson, Executive Director at Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center
ElderHelp is very fortunate to have had the support of AHF over the last few years. Their grant process is fair and reasonable and they truly dive into the information, educate themselves, and understand the challenges and issues facing each non-profit they consider. More importantly, their support comes not only in the form of a check, they also provide workshops, webinars, networking opportunities, referrals, and ongoing mentoring and brainstorming all year round. It’s a true partnership.
Deborah M., CEO/Executive Director at ElderHelp of San Diego
The Mission Support Grant provided by the AHF created an opportunity for CRCD to expand its Patient Navigation program to include Early Detection. Through this program, CRCD hired new staff and moved forward with multiple early detection activities, including the first Bi-National Breast Screening Campaign in Imperial County. The workshops, networking opportunities, and trainings provided have also proved invaluable as we grow the capacity of our organization. Thank you AHF.
Diana P., CEO at Cancer Resource Center of the Desert
UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic Project appreciates the recent Mission Support Grant awarded by its longtime partner, the Alliance Healthcare Foundation. It allows the SRFCP, in partnership with the community, to provide accessible, quality healthcare for the underserved. The funds leverage tremendous in-kind contributions in the form of volunteer doctors and pharmacists, space shared by churches and elementary schools, and medicines donated by pharmaceutical companies.
Dylan M., MD/MPH Candidate at UCSD School of Medicine
The Mission Support Grant has been an awesome resource in advancing the wellness of the most “at-risk” children in Imperial County. Through the use of grass-root advocacy efforts from CASA Volunteers, foster children are receiving high quality and expedited healthcare services. CASA Volunteers are passionate about advancing the overall wellness of our foster children due to (the) amount of trauma they have experienced. AHF has provided funding and innovation in servicing such a population. Thank YOU!
Alex C., Executive Director at CASA of Imperial County
The San Diego LGBT Community Center is so grateful to have received a Mission Support Grant from AHF! It helps make a world of difference in the lives of our formerly homeless youth at the Youth Housing Project; supporting mental health services, primary care, case management, and the other services that change the lives of these youth! Thank you AHF for making such a huge difference in the lives of these youth!!
Delores Jacobs, Ph. D., CEO at San Diego LGBT Community Center
The deep concern and enthusiasm with which Alliance Healthcare Foundation surrounds their grantees is rare. The Imperial Valley Food Bank was privileged to receive a grant from AHF to support our Mobile Food Pantry, providing needed food, with adequate refrigeration, to the desert communities of the Imperial Valley. In receiving this grant from Alliance Healthcare Foundation, we have found a true partner in the work of bettering the health and wellbeing of both San Diego and Imperial counties.
Sara Griffen, Executive Director at Imperial Valley Food Bank
Shakti Rising is deeply grateful for Alliance Healthcare’s support. We believe that the current crises in health, safety, environment and economy are interconnected, and the creation of woman and child friendly societies is the solution. This grant is integral in enabling us to support women through our recovery, education and leadership development services. This form of investment has been proven to ripple out far beyond the individuals served – transforming family, friends and communities.
Tess Meissner, Director of Transformational Education at Shakti Rising
I would like to start with thanking Alliance Healthcare Foundation for the financial support of the Mission Support grant they have given Alliance Health Clinic (AHC). Founded in 2007, AHC is a non-profit community clinic that helps so many community members in need of health care regardless of their ability to pay for our services. We find Alliance Healthcare Foundation one of the most grantee-friendly, sincere and attentive to the needs of the organizations that they fund.
Walter Lam, President & CEO at Alliance Health Clinic
Horn of Africa Community has received Mission Support Grant in 2011 and 2012. The application process was unique yet simple. It’s one of the very few grant programs offered by a foundation that responds to the unique funding challenges that organizations face which is a general support to organizations that work with low income and underserved populations. The refugee community in San Diego had challenges in accessing services and AHF has been generous in providing support.
Abdi Mahamoud, President at Horn of Africa
